Asthma UK gets a change in the law
Thanks to Asthma UK, after almost 4 years of campaigning, the law is changing to keep children with asthma safe at school.
Asthma UK have reported that from 1 October, children will have access to a spare emergency inhaler at school. This is huge news and a massive relief for parents of children with asthma!
Amazingly previous legislation meant it was illegal for schools to have a spare emergency inhaler, even though exemptions existed for organisations like the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the armed forces.
But Asthma UK aren’t happy to leave it there. They want to do EVEN more.
Shockingly, the National Review of Asthma Deaths found that children who died from asthma were more likely to have received poor care than adults. We agree! This absolutely has to change.
So, if you have a child, family member or colleague with asthma please download an action plan now. It’s essential that every person with asthma has one to help them to learn how to use an inhaler correctly and consistently, how to know if their asthma is getting worse and what to do in an emergency situation.
